How to Prepare Your Car For A Summer Road Trip

Many people look forward to taking road trips during the summer. However, before you hit the road, you need to make sure that your vehicle is prepared for the trip. It would be best if you did the following to prepare for a summer road trip.

Check the Tires

All of your tires need to be inspected before you hit the road. You should also have your spare tire inspected. Check the tread by doing the penny test. You should not be able to see Abraham Lincoln’s head. Tires with worn-out treads need to be replaced.

You should also make sure that your tires have enough pressure. Under-inflated tires are more likely to a blowout. Again, the owner’s manual will tell you about the recommended tire pressure.

Inspect the Brakes

Your brakes can save your life by helping you avoid an accident. Your brakes should not be making a grinding noise or vibrating while you drive. If you notice any problems with your brakes, then you should take your vehicle to the mechanic as soon as possible.

Change the Oil

Most vehicles need to have their oil changed every 5,000 to 7,000 miles. You can check the owner’s manual if you are not sure about how often you should change the oil. However, if you cannot remember the last time that you had the oil changed, then it is a good idea for you to get it changed before you go on a road trip.

An oil change will ensure that your vehicle runs smoothly. For example, your vehicle will be less likely to break down if you get an oil change before going on a road trip. It will also help you get more miles per gallon.

Clean Your Vehicle

You should make sure that your vehicle is clean before you hit the road. First, clean the interior by removing all of the trash and vacuuming it. You should also wash and wax the interior.

Have Your Air Conditioner Inspected

The hot weather can make the inside of your car feel unpleasant. If your air conditioner is not cooling the way that it should, then you should go to the auto repair shop. You should also have the cabin filter inspected.
